Trip to Silverton

Today we drove up to Silverton, a little mining town 50 miles north of Durango, for a FUN outing! It's a spectacular drive- the best way to get there is on the train, but I didn't think the kids were ready for 8 hours in a train car, no matter how awesome the views so we drove.
On the way there my mom asked Isaac, "What do you think we'll see in Silverton?" "Silver, Oma," he tells her. This kid doesn't miss a thing.
My main goal was to look at rocks with Isaac... this was my favorite part of going to Silverton as a kid. Isaac wasn't really into the rocks, but I bought some anyway and the kids played with them when we got home. Iron pyrite, "Fool's Gold," always made me feel rich!
